Hon Swamji, Pranam, swamiji is it necessary to chant mantras only after learning from the guru, or can we learn by reading. Also please advice if i can rectitate soundarya lahiri written by adishankaracharya, by reading it from book ,or should it it be learned from a guru. Thanks.

Dear Vijay Kumar Aashirwad,
There is absolutely no problem if you learn scriptures or the literature of the great Hindu saints of your own. Even if you chant mantras without any guidance does not matter.
However, if you are a seeker, you believe that you should understand God in this birth only, you must learn and understand them from only knowledgeable Guru
.
Arbitrary chanting or reading will not make you understand the hidden meaning called "lakshartha". Also, your individual efforts will not fetch you the fruit of the scriptures known as Brahmanand or bliss.

Question : Pushpa Hemadri, Hyderabad, India F/72 8th April 2009
Our prayer to LOrd ganesha ---
SUKHLAM BHARADARAM----
I have thsi doubt ---when we say SUKHLAM BHRADARAM----we mean Lord Ganesha is in WHITE DRESS-----
NO PICTURE OF LORD GANESHA IS IN WHITE DRESS--WHY
Reply
Mrs. Pushpa, Namaskar,
"Atharvashirsha" is most authentic stotra of Ganapathi.
Lord Ganesh is not described as wearing white clothes.
I do not think that "SUKHLAM BHRADARAM does mean
white dress for Lord Ganesha.

Are Gods Brahma Vishnu and Shiva authentic? Is Ramayan a reality? To me it is fiction. Please enlighten.

Namaskar,
You can't call our respected epics as simple fiction.
No doubt the stories depitcted are not historical but have a very deeper meaning and are great educative for common men and for the seekers of God.
