What is Self Realization?
I am constrained to write a few harsh words here lest ladies and gentlemen from different parts of the world who love God so much, fall prey to the advertisements and promises given by businessmen in the disguise of saints.
It is not very easy to understand the meaning of "Self realization". Most of the people in the world have not heard or read these words. Some people read or hear these words and just ignore. Some people think that they have understood this by reading books (scriptures). Some others think that they can logically understand self realization. Thousands of other people think that they have joined the course to learn self realization and they will understand it shortly. Some people think they will understand self realization by Kundalini Awakening course or Yoga. Some people wonder about the use of self realization for human being and some people wonder about the relation of self realization with God! But all these people are not correct in their assumptions. Self realization can’t be imagined by mind nor it could be depicted in words. Self realization is impossible to be achieved by Kundalini Awakening or any other physical or mental Yoga. Even if somebody achieves Samadhi, he/she can’t be said to have realized self.
Thousands of intellectuals and philosophers in the world, from India and from different countries have translated, commented or written big volumes on Upanishadas (Vedanta) which is main source of knowledge of self realization, but hardly anybody has realized self. When anybody realizes self, his views are changed, his life is changed. He is neither pessimistic nor optimistic, he is neither knowledgeable nor a fool, he is neither living nor dead and he is neither materialist nor a ascetic. Self realized person has no purpose left for living nor has any reason left for dying; rather he never feels that he is living or will have to die some time. There is no duty, relation, commitment, program etc. left for him and he has no work to be performed or completed in this world. Many a times a self realized person lives like many others, but for him no world exists and nothing takes place. Life of a self realized person (Jeevan Mukta ) could only be understood by another self realized person. It is beyond guess of the people. It is almost impossible for the people to understand whether a person is self realized or not, because there are no common symptoms of self realization, no rules of living life and no regularities in the life.
The knowledge of self realization is said to be Gurugamya i.e. only Guru can make it understand and give experience to his disciple or anybody. Who so ever is interested in understanding self, has to live at the mercy of Guru like a dog lives at the mercy of his master. One has to accept death without dying, do anything that is ordered by Guru without thinking that he is doing something, and has to forget I, me, my and mine for ever. The seeker of self realization has only one thought and it is about ‘Self” or soul; he is not permitted by himself to think anything else.
Self realization is the realization of God without believing and praying God and without following any religion or discipline in the world. Only one God and he is Guru. He has only one religion and that is Guru.
Who is a fool who will not like to live though living and who is a fool who will be a dog of Guru? What I shall get after achieving self realization? What is the purpose of realizing self ? Why I need to perform so much of sacrifices ? etc. If these are your questions, please read the various articles in this website. Self realization is not an art of living nor an art of dying! Self realization keeps one unaffected from living or dying and makes immortal.
